Pennsylvania German "Pow Wow" In-Person
The term “pow wow” is associated today with Native American congregations. Pennsylvania Germans however adopted the term to describe centuries-old folk beliefs invoking higher (and sometimes darker) powers. Historian Bruce Teeple explains how these practices were not just considered as a way to control everyday life: they also reflected frontier realities and uncertainties.
